HMSI drives new road safety initiative

Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India (HMSI) is driving a new initiative to spread awareness of road safety in India. The two-wheeler manufacturer has opened two traffic parks for the first time in East India – in Bhubaneswar (Driving Testing Centre, Chandarshekharpur) and in Cuttack (Driving Testing Centre, Sector 6, CDA) — in association with the RTO departments of the two cities.

Two years ago, Honda adopted its first traffic park in Jaipur, which was later followed by Delhi. Till date, the company has trained 53,000 people at these two parks.

At the traffic parks, Honda teaches 5-12 year-old children the importance of road safety using various methods, including a CRF 50 model. The Japanese manufacturer is also offering sessions that will help new riders above 18 years to experience various possible dangers on road virtually and enable them to deal with these situations in a safe manner.

Speaking at the launch of the traffic park yesterday, Takanori Maruyama, director, HMSI, said, “The Bhubaneswar traffic park is a significant step towards meeting our commitment of making safe riding an everyday habit of all two-wheeler riders.”

Yadvinder S Guleria, VP (Sales & Marketing), HMSI, added, “For over a decade, Honda has been promoting safe riding activities across India. The basic issue is not only infrastructure but the mindset of the road users. A sea change cannot be brought about overnight. It requires active participation from corporates, the government and society at large.”
