Škoda Auto Volkswagen India Private Limited (SAVWIPL) planted over 700,000 trees across Maharashtra as part of the company’s broader ecological restoration strategy, including extensive tree planting, mangrove restoration, and the use of renewable energy at its manufacturing facilities.

One of the key accomplishments in SAVWIPL’s green initiatives is the planting of the 100,000th tree at the Green Future Park near its Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar car manufacturing facility. The park is designed to create an oxygen-rich environment in the Shendra Industrial area, contributing to the restoration of local ecosystems.

SAVWIPL’s broader sustainability agenda includes significant efforts to reduce carbon emissions. The company has fully decarbonized its Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar plant, now running entirely on green energy. At its Chakan facility, SAVWIPL has installed 18.5 MWp of rooftop solar power, offsetting nearly 30% of the site's CO2 emissions.

In addition to its tree plantation efforts, SAVWIPL has also worked on restoring 100 hectares of degraded mangrove forests in Alibaug, planting over 580,000 trees to revitalize the coastal ecosystem. The company has further expanded its environmental impact with rainwater harvesting projects, which have a combined capacity of over 600 million liters in drought-prone areas of Maharashtra.

A SAVWIPL spokesperson said, "These initiatives will have a significant impact on CO2 reduction once the trees reach maturity in 5-7 years. Beyond reducing emissions, they contribute to cooling local temperatures, restoring ecosystems, and improving green cover."

In addition to these projects, the company has supported several other ecological restoration efforts in the regions surrounding its Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar and Pune facilities. Notable projects include the planting of 25,000 trees at Oxygen Park and 11,500 trees at the Green Hub. The recently developed Green Future Park, with 63,500 trees, further adds to these efforts.

SAVWIPL’s ecological projects are expected to have a long-lasting impact on the environment, aligning with the Group's sustainability mission of 'goTOzero,' which focuses on reducing environmental impact through responsible and sustainable business practices.

Škoda Auto Volkswagen India, headquartered in Pune, oversees the Indian operations of five renowned automotive brands: Škoda, Volkswagen, Audi, Porsche, and Lamborghini. Operating two manufacturing facilities in Chakan, Pune, and Shendra, Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, SAVWIPL manages an extensive portfolio of both battery electric vehicles (BEVs) and internal combustion engine (ICE) models.
