Zypp Electric announced plans to deploy 100,000 electric two-wheelers over the next 12-18 months in partnership with Indofast Energy. The expansion builds upon their existing collaboration that has already put 10,000 electric vehicles on Indian roads.
The fleet expansion will cover eight major Indian cities including Delhi NCR, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Pune, Lucknow, and Jaipur. This initiative supports Zypp Electric's goal of achieving complete electrification by 2028.
Tushar Mehta, Co-founder and COO at Zypp Electric, stated that the expansion would strengthen their market position in India while preparing them for entry into Southeast Asian, Gulf, and African markets.
Indofast Energy, a 50-50 joint venture between IndianOil and SUN Mobility, will provide battery swapping infrastructure for the new fleet. Their technology allows for battery swaps in approximately 60 seconds, eliminating charging wait times for delivery partners.
"The deployment of 100,000 battery-swappable EVs is a resounding testament to our unwavering commitment to electrify India's logistics landscape," said Rajat Malhan, Senior Vice President at Indofast Energy.
Indofast Energy currently operates over 670 swap stations across more than 20 cities, handling over one million battery swaps monthly. The company aims to expand to 10,000 stations across 50+ cities within three years, serving over one million EV users.
The electric mobility sector in India has seen significant growth in recent years, driven by government initiatives promoting cleaner transportation and rising fuel costs. Battery swapping technology addresses key EV adoption barriers including high upfront battery costs, maintenance concerns, and charging time.
Founded in 2017, Zypp Electric operates as a tech-enabled EV-as-a-service platform focused on sustainable last-mile logistics. The company currently has over 22,000 electric vehicles in its fleet and plans to expand to 500,000 vehicles within the next 36-48 months.
