Yulu Implements WhatsApp-based Road Safety Initiative for Delivery Riders
Electric mobility provider implements digital education initiative to improve traffic rule compliance among its 30,000 delivery partners through multi-faceted safety framework.
Yulu, an Indian shared electric mobility provider, has launched the country's first WhatsApp-based Road Safety Learning Initiative targeting delivery personnel. The program has already seen participation from over 3,600 riders who have completed the initial educational module and received "Safe Rider Beginner" certifications.
The initiative forms part of Yulu's comprehensive "3E" approach to road safety—Education, Enforcement, and Ecosystem Partnerships—aimed at addressing safety concerns within the growing hyperlocal delivery sector.
According to company data, more than 1,200 participants have submitted video pledges committing to observe traffic regulations. The educational program specifically targets common infractions including wrong-way riding, footpath usage, and signal violations through instructional videos followed by comprehension assessments.
"Following traffic rules is the individual responsibility of every motorist. But as a company dedicated to making urban mobility better for all, Yulu goes the extra mile to educate and guide its users towards the right behaviour," said Amit Gupta, Co-Founder and CEO of Yulu.
The company employs both human oversight and technological solutions to enforce compliance. Bike Marshals stationed at strategic locations monitor vehicle usage, while the company's electric vehicles, manufactured by Bajaj Auto Ltd., feature wrong-way detection capabilities that allow for real-time monitoring of rider behavior.
Since 2022, Yulu has conducted safety workshops in partnership with local traffic police, reaching over 1,100 delivery partners in 2024 alone. The company plans to host a roundtable discussion with e-commerce industry stakeholders and Bengaluru Traffic Police to develop collaborative safety solutions.
The initiative serves the more than 30,000 quick commerce and e-commerce delivery partners who utilise Yulu's shared electric vehicles. Beyond safety improvements, the company reports its electric fleet has facilitated 240 million deliveries while preventing an estimated 32 million kilograms of carbon dioxide emissions.
