Volvo Car India has introduced the updated XC90, featuring design refinements and enhanced technology. Priced at ₹1,02,89,900 (ex-showroom), the latest iteration of the flagship SUV was unveiled at an event held at the Embassy of Sweden in New Delhi.
Ambassador Thesleff highlighted the strong economic and technological ties between India and Sweden, stating that the Volvo XC90 reflects Sweden’s commitment to innovation and engineering excellence. He expressed confidence that the SUV’s blend of luxury, safety, and performance would appeal to Indian consumers.
The new XC90 incorporates Volvo’s latest safety technologies, including a reinforced safety cage and advanced driver assistance features. The vehicle’s radar and front camera system can detect unintentional lane departures and steer the SUV back into its lane. Additional safety measures include run-off road mitigation and collision avoidance systems designed to detect and react to vehicles, pedestrians, cyclists, and large animals.
The SUV also features an upgraded suspension system. The standard dampers adjust to road conditions for improved stability and ride comfort. An optional air suspension system, working with an active chassis, monitors driving conditions and adjusts the ride height accordingly—lowering it by 20mm for better aerodynamics or raising it by 40mm for rough terrain. Enhanced insulation further reduces cabin noise.
The cabin of the new XC90 incorporates a contemporary Scandinavian design, with a horizontal dashboard layout featuring decorative panels made from premium recycled materials. New vertical air vents and ambient lighting enhance the cabin’s aesthetic. A redesigned 11.2-inch central touchscreen with an improved resolution and user interface provides access to a range of features, apps, and software updates.
Exterior updates include a revised grille with an updated Volvo iron mark, a new front bumper, sculpted hood, and redesigned front fenders. The SUV now comes with 20-inch wheels and introduces a new exterior color, Mulberry Red. At the rear, the taillights feature a darkened design, while the front end incorporates slim T-shaped headlights with Matrix-design LED technology. The comfort chassis has also been upgraded with FSD damper technology.
Interior refinements include new upholstery, updated decorative inlays, and second-row captain seat armrests with integrated cupholders. The Bowers & Wilkins speaker mesh has been redesigned, while the instrument panel and door panels now feature chrome inserts. Additional enhancements include an improved wireless phone charger and an upgraded 360-degree camera with a split-screen function.
The new XC90 B5 Ultra is powered by a 1,969cc petrol mild-hybrid engine, delivering 250 hp and 360 Nm of torque. It is paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission and an all-wheel-drive system. The SUV is also equipped with an advanced air cleaner featuring a PM 2.5 sensor for improved cabin air quality.
The infotainment system is Android-powered with built-in Google Services and wired Apple CarPlay compatibility. The Bowers & Wilkins premium sound system includes 19 speakers with a 1,410W output. The SUV offers adaptive cruise control, pilot assist, lane-keeping aid, and a blind spot information system with cross-traffic alert. Collision mitigation support is available for both front and rear situations. The 360-degree camera and parking assistance functions cover the front, rear, and sides of the vehicle.
Additional features include the Volvo Cars App, a graphical head-up display, ventilated front seats with massage function, Nappa leather upholstery, air suspension, and an 11.2-inch frameless display.
Volvo Car India has announced that deliveries of the updated XC90 will commence in March 2025.
