Volkswagen launches new Virtus GT Line, GT Plus Sport variants

Volkswagen has launched two new trims of the Virtus sedan – GT Line and GT Plus Sport – which are priced from Rs 14.07 lakh and Rs 17.84 lakh, respectively (ex-showroom, India). The company has also updated the remaining lineup with more features from higher-spec trims, and a similar treatment has also been meted out to the Taigun SUV. With this update, the Virtus also gets the chrome and sport exterior packages as was introduced with the Taigun sometime ago.

The new GT Line trim essentially brings the blacked-out exterior treatment from the 1.5 TSI variants to the 1.0 TSI variants. Volkswagen had showcased the Virtus GT Line earlier in March this year, and has finally announced the prices. The GT Line trim has been positioned below the Topline trim in the 1.0 TSI lineup.

The Virtus GT Line variants get a blacked-out treatment for the alloy wheels, grille, roof, wing mirrors and bumpers; the door handles have a new dark chrome finish and there’s a gloss black spoiler on the boot lid as well. Additionally, the Virtus badging has also been blacked-out and there are new GT Line badges on the fenders and boot lid.

In terms of equipment, the Virtus GT Line gets an electric sunroof, an 8.0-inch digital instrument cluster, a 10-inch infotainment screen, front fog lamps, red ambient lighting, aluminium pedals, TMPS, hill hold control, 6 airbags and ESC. The interior comes finished in all-black upholstery with grey stitching.

The new GT Plus variants are being offered with the 1.5 TSI engine with both 6-speed manual and 7-speed DCT gearboxes. A similar blacked-out treatment continues here as well, but the GT Plus Sport additionally gets red “GT” badges all around, red brake callipers, a dual-tone roof, and an aero kit that brings sporty updates to the front and rear bumpers and the side running board.

On the inside, the GT Plus Sport additionally gets black leatherette upholstery with contrasting red stitching. This variant also gets red inserts on the steering wheel. Over the GT Line, the GT Plus Sport variant offers ventilated and electrically adjustable front seats.

The Taigun GT Line variants have been on sale for a while, but have now been updated with more features. This includes an 8-inch digital instrument cluster, a sunroof, push-button start/stop, aluminium pedals, rain-sensing wipers, and automatic headlamps over their existing feature list. Like the Virtus, the Taigun GT Line is also only available with the 1.0-litre TSI engine with manual and automatic gearboxes.

Both Taigun and Virtus 1.0 TSI variants also get a new Highline Plus trim that sits between the Highline and Topline trims. The Highline Plus variants makes a few features more accessible from the higher-spec Topline trim. This includes the 8-inch digital instrument cluster, an auto-dimming IRVM, push-button start/stop, a single-pane sunroof, auto headlamps, rain-sensing wipers, and follow-me-home functionality for the lights. Additionally, the Topline trims of both models now come equipped with an amplifier and subwoofer.

Volkswagen hasn’t revealed the detailed price list of either models post this updateHowever, the Virtus range is now priced between Rs 11.56 lakh and Rs 19.41 lakh, while the Taigun is priced between Rs 11.70 lakh and Rs 20 lakh, both prices ex-showroom, India.
