Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) continues to focus on improving road safety in India through various initiatives, reaching over 10 lakh people. The company's efforts include educational programs for school children, opportunities for students to develop new ideas, and support for traffic monitoring infrastructure.
The Toyota Safety Education Program (TSEP), launched in 2007, has reached 9,29,288 students with support from 1,643 trained educators across 140 schools since FY23. The program follows a three-year intervention model and operates under the theme "Road Safety – My Right, My Responsibility," employing an ABC approach: Awareness, Behavioral Change, and Campaigns.
Currently in its second phase, TSEP is being implemented in Bangalore, Delhi, and Mumbai during FY 2024-25, with the first phase in Bangalore concluding in FY 2025-26. The program utilizes a child-to-community model where participating students become road safety ambassadors in their communities.
Complementing TSEP, the Toyota Hackathon provides a platform for students from 7th to 12th grade to develop innovative road safety solutions. The initiative has engaged 77,200 students and generated over 350 concepts addressing school zone safety, IoT integration, and traffic management.
For infrastructure development, TKM has supported the establishment of seven Traffic Parks where children can learn road safety rules in simulated environments. In Mizoram, the company has implemented a Road Safety and Health Initiative benefiting 800 commercial drivers through awareness sessions and health check-ups, with a cumulative impact on 7,822 individuals.
TKM has also installed 34 Automatic Number Plate Recognition systems and 20 CCTV cameras at key junctions in Mizoram, enhancing traffic monitoring for over 4 lakh road users.

TKM's road safety initiatives align with Toyota's global three-pillar approach focusing on people, vehicles, and traffic environment, building on programs dating back to the 1960s.
