TATA.ev, a subsidiary of Tata Motors and India's largest four-wheeler electric vehicle manufacturer, has launched its electric vehicle portfolio in Mauritius in partnership with Allied Motors, the country's leading automobile distributor. The launch on March 28, 2025, marks TATA.ev's first expansion beyond the SAARC region.
The company has introduced three electric vehicles to the Mauritian market: the Tiago.ev, Punch.ev, and Nexon.ev. These vehicles are built on high-voltage architectures and offer features including terrain response, safety systems, and comfort features.
Yash Khandelwal, Head of International Business at Tata Passenger Electric Mobility Ltd., highlighted Mauritius's strategic importance due to the government's commitment to sustainable mobility. He expressed confidence that TATA.ev's experience in India and SAARC markets positions the company well to support Mauritius's transition to electric mobility.
James Ngan, Managing Director of Allied Motors, described the partnership as transformative for Mauritius, bringing electric vehicles to a market ready for sustainable transportation options. He emphasized the combination of power, efficiency, and technology offered by the TATA.ev portfolio.
The Tiago.ev features multi-mode regenerative braking, City and Sport drive modes, and a 24kWh battery offering a range of 190-210 km. The Punch.ev, a compact SUV, includes a 35 kWh battery with a 270-290 km range, while the Nexon.ev provides a range of 350-375 km with its 45 kWh battery.
All vehicles come with an 8-year or 160,000 km warranty on the battery and motor, and a 7-year or 150,000 km warranty on the vehicle. Each purchase includes a free 7.2 kW Home Charging Wall Box and cable.
Mauritius has been steadily moving toward green energy solutions in recent years. The island nation, known for its vulnerability to climate change, has been implementing policies to reduce carbon emissions, particularly in the transportation sector. The government has been incentivizing the adoption of electric vehicles through tax benefits and infrastructure development.
Allied Motors, which will handle sales and after-sales support, has technicians trained by Tata Motors to ensure quality service throughout the ownership experience.
This launch represents a significant step in Mauritius's automotive industry as it transitions toward more sustainable transportation options, aligning with global trends and environmental goals.
