Tata Punch outsells Maruti Wagon-R from January-July 2024
Punch emerges as the bestseller with 1.26 lakh units sold.
Tata Punch has emerged as the bestselling car in India in the January-July 2024 period, and it has managed to beat the Maruti Wagon R and Hyundai Creta that finished second and third, respectively. One of the reasons for the Punch's success could be its multiple powertrain options that include petrol, CNG and EV.
Tata Motors managed to sell about 1.26 lakh units of the Punch sub-compact SUV, as per data released by JATO Dynamics India. It was revealed that the electric and CNG powertrains made up 47 percent of the Punch’s total sales. The Wagon R finished second, with 1.16 lakh units sold from January-July 2024. The hatchback managed to overtake the SUV in February and July, and in the latter, it was by a mere 70 units.
It should be noted that the Wagon R has been India's top-selling passenger car for three consecutive fiscal years, which makes it an even more commendable feat for the Punch.
The Hyundai Creta came in third with 1,08,698 units sold in the same period. The midsize SUV became the bestselling car in India in the month of July 2024 with 17,350 units sold. Maruti’s Brezza finished behind the Creta with 1,04,739 units sold between January and July 2024. Maruti Ertiga followed right behind, with a little over 1.04 lakh units to its name in this period.
The addition of the fully electric version in January this year has certainly boosted the Punch's overall sales. Tata Motors sold 79,136 units of the sub-compact SUV from January-July last year, which means that it recorded a year-on-year growth of almost 60 percent.
