Tata Nexon EV hits 50,000 sales in India 41 months after launch

Demand for India’s best-selling electric passenger vehicle grows in tandem with the consumer shift to electric mobility; Nexon EV sales account for 64 percent of Tata Motors' three-model EV portfolio.

Tata Nexon EV hits 50,000 sales in India 41 months after launch

Tata Motors has announced that the Nexon EV, the best-selling electric passenger vehicle, has clocked 50,000-unit sales in the domestic market.

Launched on January 28, 2020, the Nexon EV has taken 41 months or just under three-and-a-half years to notch the sales milestone. The sustained demand for the eco-friendly SUV has enabled Tata Motors to become the EV market leader in India and also contributed to the Nexon, which is also available with petrol and diesel engines, to be India’s best-selling SUV.

Nexon EV accounts for 64% of Tata EV sales

Tata Motors, which has an EV portfolio of three models – Nexon EV, Tigor EV/Xpres T and Tiago EV – has sold a total of 70,616 EVs till end-March 2023. Of this, the Tata Nexon EV accounted for 64% of the total, followed by the Tigor EV/Xpres-T (16,759 units / 24%) and Tiago EV (8,358 units / 12%).

The Nexon EV’s sales have grown in tandem with the fast-increasing consumer awareness of electric mobility in the past three years. From 3,806 units in FY2021, the eSUV's sales rose to 13,879 units in FY2022 and 27,814 units in FY2023.  

Nexon EV, which contributes up to 15% to over Nexon sales, is available in Prime, Max, and #Dark variants, with prices starting from Rs 14.49 lakh.

According to Tata Motors, the Nexon EV is currently sold in over 500 cities across India and has been driven for over 900 million kilometres and counting, across varying terrains. On an average, Nexon EV owners are driving around 6.3 million kilometres in a month on intercity and outstation trips ranging from 100km to 400km. The Tata Nexon EV’s sales have also been powered by India’s growing EV charging infrastructure, which has seen a growth of over 1,500% between FY2021 and FY2023. At present, there are over 6,000 charging stations in the country.

The Nexon EV, which contributes up to 15% to the total Nexon brand sales, is available in Prime, Max, and #Dark variants, with prices starting from Rs 14.49 lakh. As per the sales trend, many young buyers are opting for the Nexon EV, states Tata Motors. The Nexon EV supports multiple charging options – 3.3 kW AC charging, 7.2 kW AC fast charging, and is compatible with DC fast charging.

The Nexon EV, which comes with features like leatherette ventilated seats, wireless charger, electric sunroof, auto-dimming IRVM, multi drive modes and multi-regen options, has also has safety features like ESP with iVBAC, electronic parking brake with auto hold, dual airbags and disc brakes.

The Nexon EV customers have grown to 50K in just 3 years. This is a testament to how India has embraced EVs as the mobility of the current times.”
