Tata Motors, in collaboration with DIMO, launched a new range of passenger vehicles in Sri Lanka today. The lineup includes both internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles and electric vehicles (EV), featuring the Tata Punch, Nexon, and Curvv SUVs, along with the Tiago.ev electric hatchback.
The event also included a preview of Tata's expanded EV portfolio, showcasing the Punch.ev, Nexon.ev, and Curvv.ev models, highlighting the company's capabilities in the electric vehicle segment.
Yash Khandelwal, Head of International Business at Tata Passenger Electric Mobility Ltd., described the launch as "a new chapter in our international business strategy." He emphasized that the vehicles combine design, features, safety, and after-sales support, with particular focus on the Tiago.ev, which has already been introduced in India, Nepal, and Bhutan.
Rajeev Pandithage, Executive Director of DIMO, noted that Tata Motors is the first passenger vehicle brand to enter Sri Lanka since the market reopened. He emphasized the affordability of the new range and DIMO's commitment to after-sales service.
The ICE vehicles come with a three-year or 100,000 km warranty, while electric vehicles offer a three-year or 125,000 km warranty. The high-voltage battery and motor in EVs are covered for eight years or 165,000 km. DIMO will provide 24-hour roadside assistance and technical support.
Tata Motors has been expanding its international presence in recent years, particularly with its electric vehicle lineup. The company has established itself as a leader in India's EV market with approximately 70% market share. The Tiago.ev, launched in India in 2022, was positioned as one of the most affordable electric vehicles in the market at that time.
Sri Lanka has been working to reopen and stabilize its automotive market following recent economic challenges. The country has shown interest in promoting electric mobility as part of its sustainability goals and to reduce dependency on fuel imports.
This launch represents Tata Motors' strategy to strengthen its position in South Asian markets while promoting sustainable transportation options through its expanding electric vehicle portfolio.
