Global NCAP has presented Tata Motors with the Safer Choice Award for the Tata Safari and Harrier models, recognizing the company's commitment to high safety standards for cars sold in India.
The Tata Safari and Harrier achieved a five-star rating from Global NCAP for both adult and child occupant protection, receiving the highest scores in the organization’s #SaferCarsForIndia campaign last year. Tata Motors has since submitted these models for additional Safer Choice conformity tests, where they met the performance and volume requirements for Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB), speed assistance, and Blind Spot Detection (BSD) systems.
David Ward, President of the Towards Zero Foundation, praised Tata Motors’ dedication to vehicle safety. “We are pleased to present the Safer Choice Award to Tata Motors for the Safari and Harrier. This award highlights their commitment to achieving high levels of protection for both occupants and vulnerable road users,” Ward said.
Global NCAP introduced the Safer Choice Award in 2018 and updated its criteria in August 2024. To qualify for the award, a vehicle must achieve a five-star rating for adult and child occupant protection, provide a speed assistance system with a full score in test criteria, meet UN regulatory performance requirements for AEB, and offer BSD as a stand-alone option meeting Global NCAP’s performance standards.
Mohan Savarkar, Vice President and Chief Product Officer at Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles Limited, expressed pride in receiving the award. “We are honored to receive the Safer Choice Award for our Tata Safari and Tata Harrier. Our focus on safety is reflected in every vehicle we manufacture, setting a benchmark in the industry. This recognition reinforces our commitment to providing high safety standards alongside comfort and performance,” Savarkar stated.
