Tata Elxsi, a global design and technology services provider, has partnered with Minespider, a blockchain-powered traceability solutions firm, to unveil MOBIUS+, a platform aimed at improving battery lifecycle management. The initiative focuses on sustainability, regulatory compliance, and performance optimization in the battery industry.
MOBIUS+ integrates blockchain technology and advanced analytics to provide insights and solutions for original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) and stakeholders across the battery ecosystem. It caters to various stages of the battery lifecycle, from production to recycling. The platform also aims to support the battery industry in meeting emerging global regulatory requirements, such as the EU Battery Passport, the US Inflation Reduction Act, and recommendations from the Global Battery Alliance (GBA).
By leveraging Minespider’s blockchain-enabled battery passport system, MOBIUS+ facilitates compliance with international standards and regulatory mandates. Tata Elxsi has taken the lead in developing and deploying the platform globally, with a focus on the Indian market. The platform enables secure data onboarding and integration for vendors, offers centralized data storage for easy access, and supports advanced analytics to optimize battery performance and lifecycle management.
Tata Elxsi stated that MOBIUS+ would help companies streamline workflows and improve the return on investment by leveraging data-driven insights. The platform supports integration with third-party systems through APIs and allows OEMs to design custom workflows for tailored analytics applications.
Battery passports, an integral feature of MOBIUS+, are projected to reduce emissions across the battery lifecycle by up to 20% while delivering cost savings of 10-20% in recycling and maintenance through predictive insights.
The global launch of MOBIUS+ is scheduled for the Bharat Mobility Show, where live demonstrations will showcase its capabilities, including analytics and compliance features. Both Tata Elxsi and Minespider are committed to refining the platform to address future market needs and regulatory changes, according to an official press release by Elxsi. Plans for extending its use to other sectors, such as logistics and energy, are also under consideration.
The partnership reflects growing efforts to address sustainability challenges in the battery industry, which has seen increasing scrutiny due to its environmental and ethical implications. Regulatory measures, including the EU Battery Regulation and global sustainability initiatives, underscore the importance of traceability and accountability in the sector. MOBIUS+ aims to be a significant step forward in meeting these challenges through technology-driven solutions.
