Syros Helps Kia Post Strong Growth in Feb Sales

Kia India reported total sales of 25,026 units in February 2025, representing a 23.8% increase compared to the same month last year when the company sold 20,200 units, with the recently launched Syros SUV playing a key role in this growth.

The Kia Syros, launched on February 1, 2025, contributed 5,425 units to February's sales figures and has garnered more than 20,000 bookings in just one month. Priced between ₹8.99 lakh and ₹16.99 lakh (ex-showroom), this sub-compact SUV slots between the Sonet and Seltos, targeting buyers seeking a balance of space, features, and affordability. According to the company, 46% of Syros buyers opted for top variants, while 38% chose models with automatic transmission.

The company's established models showed mixed performance against a backdrop of previous declines. The Sonet sold 7,598 units and the Seltos recorded 6,446 units, despite these models experiencing significant drops in the past - with Seltos seeing a 57% year-on-year drop in June 2023 and Sonet facing a 38% decline in January 2025. The Carens contributed 5,318 units, while the premium Carnival Limousine sold 239 units.

The automaker also exported 2,042 units of its India-manufactured vehicles to over 70 international markets during the month.

"Kia India continues to grow steadily, driven by strong customer demand and our commitment to delivering cutting-edge mobility solutions," said Hardeep Singh Brar, Senior Vice President and Head of Sales and Marketing at Kia India. The success of the Syros appears to be addressing the company's need to revitalize its portfolio amid slowing sales of existing models.

Kia began its manufacturing operations in India in August 2019 after signing a memorandum of understanding with the Andhra Pradesh government in April 2017. The company's Anantapur plant has an annual production capacity of 300,000 units. Since its entry into the Indian market, Kia has introduced seven models: the Seltos, Syros, Sonet, Carens, Carnival, EV6, and EV9.

The company has delivered approximately 1.6 million vehicles from its Anantapur facility, including over 1.2 million units for the domestic market and about 367,000 for export. Kia currently operates 700 touchpoints across 300 cities in India and has over 450,000 connected cars on Indian roads.

In April 2021, Kia India rebranded itself with a new identity, "Movement that Inspires," aimed at enhancing customer experiences through innovative products and services. The Syros launch indroduces segment-first features like a panoramic sunroof and Level-2 ADAS, addressing shortcomings of the smaller Sonet such as limited space, and helping Kia adapt to evolving consumer preferences in India's competitive SUV market.
