Sun Mobility, a provider of energy infrastructure and services for electric vehicles (EVs), announced on Tuesday that it will collaborate with Swiggy, an on-demand convenience delivery company, to supply over 15,000 e-bikes over the next 12 months.
Swiggy's last-mile delivery e-bike fleet will get access to Sun Mobility's battery-swapping technology and a large network of battery-swapping stations as a result of this collaboration, the company said in a statement.
Anant Badjatya, CEO, Sun Mobility, said, "We are happy to partner with Swiggy, a pioneer in the food and on-demand delivery industry, to drive the adoption of electric mobility in India. SUN Mobility is committed to promoting sustainable last-mile deliveries through electrification of the delivery fleet. Through our partnership with Swiggy, we will work towards our shared vision of reducing our carbon footprint, promoting sustainable mobility, and contributing to a greener environment".
Mihir Shah, Head of Operations at Swiggy, commented, “As part of our early and long-term commitment to greener transportation, Swiggy is always looking for ways to increase the adoption of electric vehicles in our delivery fleet. Working with Sun Mobility allows us to solve concerns about access to battery-swapping stations. Our delivery partners can keep going without putting in extra miles or delays due to battery swapping, all while giving them savings on fuel and vehicle maintenance and contributing to a greener environment.”
Swiggy's fleet distributes millions of orders each month, with delivery executives averaging 80–100 kilometres per day. Swiggy hopes to encourage its existing fleet of delivery vans to shift to EVs by providing rapid access to battery-swapping facilities near delivery hubs, such as crowded restaurants. This will also allow them to save up to 40% on vehicle operating costs, which will increase their earnings. Swiggy has set an ambitious target to cover 8 lakh kilometres per day with electric vehicles by 2025.
