Schaeffler Plans Global Capability Centre to Strengthen Software, Digitalisation Capabilities

Schaeffler is actively evaluating the establishment of a Global Capability Centre (GCC) as part of its strategy to enhance software and digital capabilities. The move aligns with the company’s broader transformation towards electrification, digitalisation, and climate neutrality.

The GCC is expected to complement Schaeffler’s existing mechatronics centre in Pune, which focuses on designing and developing electromechanical systems, and its Bengaluru facility, inherited through the Vitesco merger, which houses around 900 engineers specialising in power electronics and software.

“We are drawing up plans for the Global Capability Centre, which will help us strengthen our expertise not just in automotive but also in the industrial sector. Digitalisation is crucial, and without it, achieving our 2040 climate neutrality goal will be impossible,” said Harsha Kadam, CEO and MD, Schaeffler India.

Schaeffler has set an ambitious target to become climate neutral by 2040, well ahead of India’s 2070 commitment. “All our actions are geared towards meeting this goal. To get there, software and digitalisation cannot be ignored,” Kadam added.

The company is currently evaluating the best location for the new GCC, with Bengaluru being one of the key contenders. “We are assessing various options for setting up the centre, and a final decision is yet to be made,” Kadam stated.

With this move, Schaeffler aims to bolster its innovation and research and development capabilities.
