SanDisk has introduced the industry’s first automotive-grade UFS4.1 interface device, the SanDisk iNAND® AT EU752 UFS4.1 Embedded Flash Drive (EFD), at Embedded World 2025. The new storage solution is designed to support the increasing data demands of modern automotive systems, particularly as Software Defined Vehicles (SDVs) continue to evolve.
The need for high-performance storage in vehicles has grown with the advancement of automotive artificial intelligence (AI) technologies, including Advanced Driver Assist Systems (ADAS), Autonomous Driving (AD), and eCockpit functionalities. These systems require continuous access to data from sensors, maps, and AI databases. The SanDisk iNAND AT EU752 UFS4.1 EFD provides real-time, in-vehicle storage to help mitigate latency and connectivity issues that may arise when relying on cloud data.
According to SanDisk, the new device delivers more than twice the performance of its previous UFS3.1 storage solution and offers storage capacities of up to 1TB, utilizing BiCS8 TLC NAND technology. It is designed to meet the increasing storage demands of automotive AI applications while ensuring reliability and endurance.
The device features health status reporting, enabling vehicle systems to monitor storage performance and take preventive measures to avoid potential failures. It also incorporates a fast boot function, which eliminates the need for a separate NOR device, reducing both board space and costs. This feature is particularly important for safety-critical applications, such as rearview camera systems, which require rapid startup within two seconds.
With storage capacities ranging from 128GB to 1TB, the SanDisk iNAND AT EU752 UFS4.1 EFD delivers sequential read speeds of up to 4,200 MB/s and sequential write speeds of up to 3,900 MB/s in its 1TB variant. It is also backward-compatible with UFS3.1 hosts.
Currently shipping to select customers and partners, the new storage solution expands SanDisk’s portfolio of automotive-grade storage products, which includes SD cards, e.MMC, UFS2.1, UFS3.1, and NVMe solutions.
SanDisk is showcasing the AT EU752 UFS4.1 EFD at Embedded World 2025, alongside its latest industrial embedded and removable flash storage solutions, client SSDs for workstations and laptops, and data center storage products such as the SanDisk® DC SN861 NVMe™ SSD and Ultrastar® DC SN655 NVMe SSD.
