PURE EV, an Indian electric two-wheeler manufacturer, has partnered with France's BE Energy to introduce Li-Ion battery reconditioning technology in India, the companies announced in Hyderabad on Tuesday. The collaboration aims to double the lifespan of EV batteries by combining BE Energy's reconditioning equipment with PURE EV's BatricsFaraday technology.

The collaboration aims to double the lifespan of EV batteries by combining BE Energy's reconditioning equipment with PURE EV's BatricsFaraday technology.
The partnership marks BE Energy's entry into the Indian market, with plans to establish their first facility in Hyderabad's Karmanghat IDA during the 2026 fiscal year. This initiative is expected to reduce costs for EV owners by decreasing the frequency of battery replacements.
"This collaboration will help build confidence among financial institutions and end users regarding the resale value of electric vehicles," said Dr. Nishanth Dongari, Founder and Managing Director of PURE EV. Bertrand Coste, Founder and Global President of BE Energy, emphasized the environmental benefits of reconditioning end-of-life and defective batteries.
The partnership comes at a time when India's electric vehicle market is experiencing rapid growth, with two-wheelers leading the segment. According to industry data, electric two-wheeler sales in India grew by 160% in 2023, highlighting the increasing demand for sustainable transportation solutions.
Battery life and replacement costs have been significant concerns in India's EV adoption journey. The average lifespan of a Li-Ion battery in electric two-wheelers typically ranges from 3-5 years, contributing substantially to the overall ownership cost. This collaboration aligns with India's Make in India initiative and follows recent government policies promoting domestic manufacturing of EV components.
The joint venture is expected to influence financing options for EV purchases, as extended battery life could lead to better loan terms from banks and NBFCs. This development comes as India works toward its goal of achieving 30% electric vehicle penetration by 2030.
PURE EV, established in 2016, has manufactured over 60,000 electric two-wheelers and is known for its domestic battery production capabilities. BE Energy, headquartered in France, specializes in battery reconditioning technology and has operations across Europe.
