Nearly 62 OEMs registered under the Government of India's FAME 2 scheme have successfully sold over 11.5 lakh electric vehicles on Indian roads, claiming subsidies totalling Rs 5,228.00 crore as of December 1, 2023.
This was confirmed by Minister of State for Heavy Industries, Krishan Pal Singh Gurjar on December 5, 2023, responding to a question in the ongoing Winter Session Lok Sabha on the growth of electric vehicles.
Sharing a breakdown of the growth of electric vehicles, Gurjar informed the government that the FAME 2 Scheme has benefited approximately 10,16,887 electric two-wheelers, 1,21,374 electric three-wheelers, 14,818 electric four-wheelers, and 3487 e-buses.

The scheme has been extended for a further period of two years, up to March 31, 2024.
The Minister of State for Heavy Industries stated that the Centre sanctioned nearly 6862 electric buses to various cities, state transportation undertakings, and state government entities for intracity operations.
Minister Gurjar further stated that the government has sanctioned a capital of Rs 800 crore in subsidies to the three Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs) of the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas (MoPNG) for the development of 7,432 public electric vehicle charging stations
The government of India also clarified that nearly 5,094 crores of claims have been submitted by various OEMs as of November 15, 2023, and the government has already disbursed Rs 3,815 crore so far.
