Ola Electric, India's largest EV manufacturer, announced its entry into the electric motorcycle segment with the launch of the Roadster X series on February 5, 2025. The new series includes five variants with prices ranging from ₹74,999 to ₹1,54,999, with deliveries scheduled to begin in mid-March.
The top-end Roadster X+ 9.1kWh variant, featuring the 4680 Bharat Cell technology, offers a range of 501 kilometers per charge. The base Roadster X comes in 2.5kWh, 3.5kWh, and 4.5kWh variants, priced at ₹74,999, ₹84,999, and ₹94,999 respectively.
The motorcycles incorporate several technical innovations, including a patented brake-by-wire technology with single ABS and flat cables - a first in the industry. The series features a 4.3-inch LCD screen with USB connectivity, a mid-motor with integrated MCU, and runs on the company's MoveOS 5 operating system.
Bhavish Aggarwal, Chairman and Managing Director of Ola Electric, emphasized the strategic importance of motorcycles in India's mobility landscape, stating that the new series aims to accelerate EV adoption and make electric vehicles the primary choice for riders across urban and rural areas.
The Roadster X series offers varying performance specifications across its range. The base variant reaches a top speed of 105 km/h, while the higher-end models can achieve 125 km/h. The entry-level 2.5kWh variant accelerates from 0 to 40 km/h in 3.4 seconds, with higher variants improving this to 2.7 seconds.
The launch follows Ola Electric's recent introduction of its Gen 3 portfolio and new scooter ranges. The company has established a significant presence in India's EV market with over 800 experience centers nationwide and operates the Ola Futurefactory in Tamil Nadu, supported by its Battery Innovation Centre in Bengaluru.
The electric two-wheeler market in India has seen rapid growth, with several manufacturers expanding their product portfolios. Ola Electric, which began its journey with electric scooters, has now positioned itself to compete in both scooter and motorcycle segments of the electric vehicle market.
