New Mercedes E-Class LWB launch on October 9
New E-Class prices to start at around Rs 82 lakh
Mercedes-Benz India will launch the new V214 E-Class LWB, which rivals the BMW 5-Series LWB, on October 9, and deliveries will commence before Diwali – the end of the same month.
The latest-gen E-Class will replace the outgoing model that went on sale in 2017, and promises to be more tech-laden and even more comfortable. The new car is 13mm taller, and 14mm longer than its predecessor, with a 15mm increase in wheelbase as well.
The new E-Class is easily distinguishable from its predecessor thanks to its front styling that draws inspiration from modern Mercedes EQ models. Its large chrome grille sporting an oversized 3D logo surrounded by multiple smaller three-pointed stars sets the tone, and there’s a gloss black panel surrounding the grille. In profile, there are new S-Class-type flush door handles, as well as the 18-inch wheels. At the rear it features new LED tail lamps with a tri-arrow pattern embedded within. There’s also generous and tasteful use of chrome on the front and rear bumpers and on the sides as well.
On the inside, it gets the Mercedes Superscreen layout, which is a highlight. The Superscreen comprises a 14.4-inch central touchscreen and a 12.3-inch passenger touchscreen, in addition to the digital instrument cluster. It will also come with a 4D surround sound system by Burmester. Three interior colours will be on offer, all featuring a common black dashboard shade. While the front seats do not have ventilation, the driver’s seat does get a memory function. The new E-Class continues to enhance the backseat experience, with the backrest reclining between 26 and 36 degrees, which is slightly more than the outgoing model.
Initially, two four-cylinder engines will be on offer: a 204hp 2.0-litre turbo-petrol and a 197hp 2.0-litre turbo-diesel. Both are paired with 48V mild hybrid systems that provide an additional 23hp and 205Nm of torque. Both petrol and diesel engines come mated to a 9-speed torque converter automatic gearbox.
Dealer sources tell us that the new E-Class will start at around Rs 82 lakh for the petrol variant, which is slightly higher than the outgoing model. At this price, the new E-Class will still be around Rs 10 lakh more than the LWB BMW 5-series.
