M&M tractor sales up 6% in July 2024

Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd.'s Farm Equipment Sector (FES), a part of the Mahindra Group, has announced its tractor sales numbers for July 2024, with domestic sales reaching 25,587 units, marking a 6% increase compared to 24,168 units in July 2023.

Total tractor sales, including exports, stood at 27,209 units, an 8% rise from 25,175 units last year. Exports for the month surged by 61% to 1,622 units from 1,007 units in July 2023.

This year-over-year growth showcases Mahindra's robust performance, driven by favorable agricultural conditions and improved farmer sentiments. The company's domestic sales saw a notable increase, with the total tractor sales, combining both domestic and export markets, rising significantly. The surge in exports underscores Mahindra's expanding global footprint, highlighting the company's successful efforts to penetrate international markets.

When comparing month-over-month figures, Mahindra's domestic sales in June 2024 were at 45,888 units. The decrease is typical due to seasonal variations and cyclical demand patterns in the agricultural sector.

Hemant Sikka, President of the Farm Equipment Sector at Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd., attributed the growth to several key factors. "The South-West monsoon progressed well in July, with surplus rainfall in central, western, and southern states, enhancing farmer sentiments," Sikka stated. However, some regions like Bihar, Haryana, Punjab, and parts of eastern Uttar Pradesh and Jharkhand still experienced deficient rainfall. Despite this, kharif sowing progressed significantly, buoyed by higher crop prices for wheat and potatoes, and an increase in the Minimum Support Price (MSP) for major kharif crops.

Looking ahead, Sikka expressed optimism about the upcoming festive season, citing budget allocations supporting the agricultural and rural economy and favorable trade terms for farmers. He believes these factors will sustain the growth momentum in the tractor industry. "Rainfall progress remains a key monitorable for the coming months. With the upcoming festive season, the outlook for the tractor industry remains promising," Sikka added.

For the year-to-date figures up to July, domestic sales reached 142,517 units, a 5% increase from 136,043 units in the previous year. Exports also showed a significant rise, with 6,159 units sold compared to 4,141 units last year, marking a 49% growth. The total year-to-date sales stood at 148,676 units, up 6% from 140,184 units in the same period last year.

Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd., founded in 1945, is a leading multinational group of companies with a strong presence in various sectors, including farm equipment, utility vehicles, information technology, and financial services. It is the world's largest tractor company by volume.
