MIC Electronics Limited (MICEL), a provider of LED lighting and electronic display systems, has introduced an Emergency Light Unit (ELU) to improve passenger safety on trains during power outages and emergencies. The product is undergoing pilot testing on Vande Bharat trains and coaches, with final approval expected within 15 to 25 days, pending successful trials. A phased rollout will follow, guided by performance evaluations and feedback from railway authorities.
The ELU is designed for use across various railway systems, including long-distance and suburban networks. Priority deployment will focus on high-risk areas and routes with dense passenger traffic to maximize its safety benefits. Key features include automatic activation during power outages, extended backup for emergencies, energy-efficient LED illumination, compact and durable construction, and compatibility with existing railway systems. These features aim to ensure better emergency lighting, visibility, and continuity of operations.
The product has received Capacity and Caliber Assessment (CCA) approval from the Rail Coach Factory (RCF). Final certification is expected soon, and the RCF will play a key role in the deployment of ELUs across passenger coaches. Initial deployment will begin with pilot trials on select Vande Bharat train services. Based on performance and feedback, a wider rollout to other trains and systems will follow.
MICEL is also planning to provide training for railway employees on the use of the ELU and will establish a support team to address potential issues.

MICEL has previously implemented LED display systems for Indian Railways and is recognized for energy-efficient lighting in public infrastructure. The company is also preparing to introduce additional products designed for the railway sector in the near future.
