Mercedes-Benz launched its new CLA model at Villa Miani in Rome on March 13. The new model, which the company described as "the most efficient and intelligent Mercedes" ever produced, is set to debut in India in early Q1 26.
The new CLA operates on the proprietary AI-enhanced Mercedes-Benz Operating System (MB.OS), which the company states is the first automotive system to integrate AI from both Microsoft and Google. The all-electric version features an 800-volt architecture with reduced charging time, capable of recharging up to 325 km within 10 minutes.
Mercedes-Benz CEO Ola Kaellenius called the CLA "the one-liter car for the electric age," noting it will also be available as a hybrid version. The company claims the fully electric model has a maximum range of up to 792 km.
The launch included the announcement of a "Class of Creators" collaboration featuring partnerships with cultural figures including rapper Ice Spice, interior designer Gustaf Westman, and fashion designer Colm Dillane, alongside gaming platform League of Legends and toy brand Hot Wheels.
According to Mercedes-Benz, the new CLA represents the beginning of a new design era for the brand, featuring an illuminated radiator grille, star-shaped daytime running lights, and an optional "MBUX Superscreen."
The company emphasized sustainability improvements in the new model, claiming a 40% reduced carbon footprint compared to its non-electrified predecessor. This includes increased use of recycled materials, with 50% post-consumer recyclate in thermoplastics and recycled materials in various components including seats and floor coverings.
Mercedes-Benz has been working to electrify its vehicle lineup amid increasing regulatory pressure and competition in the electric vehicle market. The company has previously committed to going all-electric by 2030 where market conditions allow, though it continues to develop hybrid options alongside fully electric models.
