Mercedes-Benz begins local production of new E-Class LWB in India

Mercedes-Benz has commenced local production of the all-new Long Wheelbase (LWB) E-Class at its manufacturing facility in Chakan, Pune. This marks the rollout of the latest and most advanced version of the E-Class, which is now in its sixth generation.

The vehicle is set to make its debut in India on October 9, 2024, with an emphasis on luxury, personalisation, and advanced technology.

The production of the new LWB E-Class highlights the growing trend towards digitisation and customisation in the automotive industry. Each vehicle produced in India will feature numerous technological innovations, including Mercedes-Benz’s MBUX infotainment system, as well as high-end safety and digital assistance systems.

In terms of safety, the new E-Class introduces a centre airbag, designed to protect the driver and front passenger from colliding in the event of a side impact. The airbag is installed in the seat cushion of the driver’s seat and is activated in the event of a collision.

Additionally, the car is equipped with the MBUX Super-screen, offering the latest technology with a two-stage blocking system. This allows the driver an uninterrupted driving experience, while the front passenger can enjoy entertainment such as gaming and video streaming on their personal display.

Mercedes-Benz’s manufacturing facility in Pune has integrated a new automated body shop line for rear-floor production, aiming to set high standards in quality, precision, and efficiency. The production is supported by a supply chain focused on the ‘Make in India’ initiative, connecting various regions across the globe and contributing to the delivery of the E-Class in India.
