Maruti Suzuki partners with Bihar government to automate driving license test tracks

Maruti Suzuki India Ltd signed a memorandum of agreement with the transport department, Government of Bihar, to automate five driving license test tracks in the state. The tracks, located in Bhagalpur, Darbhanga, Gaya, Purnia, and Saran, aim to make the driving license testing process more efficient, transparent, and comprehensive.

The automated driving test tracks use advanced technology to conduct license testing without human intervention. Equipped with high-definition cameras and integrated IT systems, the tracks ensure that candidates are evaluated according to the Central Motor Vehicle Rules (CMVR). The rigorous and standardized testing process automatically generates results, ensuring only skilled drivers are awarded licenses.

Transport Minister of BiharSheela Kumari praised Maruti Suzuki for its efforts in promoting road safety. “The Automated Driving Test Tracks ensure that only competent drivers receive licenses, making our roads safer for everyone. After successfully automating tracks in Aurangabad and Patna, we are delighted to collaborate with Maruti Suzuki again to develop five more tracks in Bihar. This will significantly enhance road safety and promote responsible driving practices in the state.”

Maruti Suzuki has been actively contributing to road safety in Bihar since 2018 when it established the state’s first Institute of Driving and Traffic Research (IDTR) in Aurangabad. ADTTs in Aurangabad (2020) and Patna (2021) have already demonstrated the benefits of automation, with license seekers better prepared for testing.

Rahul Bharti, Executive Officer, Corporate Affairs, Maruti Suzuki India Limited, highlighted the broader impact of this initiative. “According to the Union Road Transport Ministry, over 15.3 lakh lives were lost in road accidents between 2014 and 2023. Automated driving license testing plays a crucial role in improving driver skills and traffic rule awareness. ADTTs guarantee that only well-prepared and skilled drivers are awarded licenses, addressing human errors that lead to accidents.”

This collaboration is part of Maruti Suzuki’s larger commitment to road safety, which focuses on five key pillars—engineering, education, evaluation, enforcement, and emergency care. As of now, the company has automated 27 driving test tracks across Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Bihar, and Haryana. With 12 more tracks being developed in Uttar Pradesh and five additional tracks in Bihar, the company is set to complete automation of 44 driving test tracks across the country.
