Manipal Hospital partners with with biker clubs to make Bengaluru a Heart-Smart City

Following the launch of Guardian of the Heart 2.0, Manipal Hospitals has provided training to 50 bike riders from various motorcycle clubs on Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) skills to transform Bengaluru into a Heart Smart City. The objective of the initiative was to educate the bikers on CPR to help people requiring emergency medical care until the support arrives. Bikers were also provided with SOS QR code stickers which would allow them to give quick medical assistance in emergency situations.

Cardiac emergencies are inherently unpredictable and can strike without warning, thereby emphasising the critical significance of the 'Golden Hour' in influencing the overall outcome. This year, Manipal Hospital Old Airport Road alone witnessed 114 total road traffic accident (RTA) cases. Also, as far as Cardiac Emergency cases are concerned, about 795 patients were admitted, the hospital stated.

Recognising the indispensable role of motorcyclists traveling across the city from one point to another urban terrain, the knowledge of CPR skills can become handy in the case of a sudden cardiac emergency.

An interactive session was arranged before the training program where bikers were guided on using the SOS QR code. Post the training, the bikers were awarded certificates from the medical experts.

On this initiative, Manipal Hospitals mentioned, “The Guardian of the Heart 2.0 initiative is another significant milestone in our journey. By imparting CPR skills to bike riders, we are expanding the network of potential first responders in Bengaluru, increasing the chances of survival for individuals experiencing cardiac emergencies on the go. We believe that together, we can transform Bengaluru into a Heart Smart City.”

The event also talked about the initiative of turning red lights into heart-shaped symbols in almost 40 traffic signals in Bengaluru with the aim to create awareness among the public to think from their heart and have patience and be responsible on the road.
