Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. recorded total auto sales of 85,432 vehicles in January 2025, marking a 16% increase from the previous year. The company's utility vehicle segment led the growth with domestic sales of 50,659 units, an 18% rise compared to 43,068 units in January 2024.
Domestic commercial vehicle sales reached 23,917 units, while exports nearly doubled to 3,404 units from 1,746 units in January 2024, representing a 95% increase. The company's year-to-date utility vehicle sales grew 20% to 453,019 units from 376,832 units in the previous fiscal year.
Veejay Nakra, President of Mahindra's Automotive Division, announced that test drives for the company's new Electric Origin SUVs, the BE6 and XEV 9E, began on January 14, with bookings set to open on February 14. The vehicles were showcased at the recent Bharat Mobility Global Expo in New Delhi.
In the commercial vehicle segment, Light Commercial Vehicles (LCV) in the 2T-3.5T category showed 5% growth with 19,209 units sold, while three-wheeler sales increased 32% to 7,452 units. However, LCVs below 2T experienced a 12% decline to 3,541 units.
Mahindra & Mahindra, established in 1945, has maintained its position as one of India's leading automotive manufacturers. The company's growth in the SUV segment reflects increasing consumer preference for utility vehicles in the Indian market.
The company's overall year-to-date exports showed strong performance with 27,505 units, a 28% increase from 21,551 units in the previous fiscal year. The growth across segments, particularly in utility vehicles and exports, indicates Mahindra's expanding market presence and the successful implementation of its product strategy.
The launch of new electric vehicles marks Mahindra's continued push into the electric mobility segment, building on its existing portfolio that includes vehicles produced by its subsidiary, Mahindra Electric Automobile Limited.
