Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. has secured a position in the top 1 percent of S&P Global's 2025 Sustainability Yearbook, becoming the only automobile manufacturer worldwide to achieve this distinction. The ranking, announced Thursday, places the Indian automotive company among an elite group of 780 organizations selected from over 7,690 companies evaluated globally.
The recognition follows Mahindra's recent leadership status in the Dow Jones Sustainability Index World Index for 2024 within the automotive sector. The company scored 82 out of 100 in the S&P Global Corporate Sustainability Assessment, marking a 12-point improvement from the previous year and its fourth consecutive year on the index.
Mahindra received perfect scores in Business Ethics, Risk & Crisis Management, and Transparency & Reporting. The company also performed well in environmental categories including Environmental Policy & Management and Waste & Pollutant Management, along with social responsibility areas such as Customer Relations, Human Rights, and Human Capital Management.
"This achievement reflects our commitment to building a sustainable future for all our stakeholders," said Veejay Nakra, President of Mahindra's Automotive Division.
The S&P Global Sustainability Yearbook evaluates companies across industries based on their environmental, social, and governance (ESG) performance. Mahindra's inclusion demonstrates the growing importance of sustainability practices in the automotive sector, which faces increasing pressure to reduce carbon emissions and adopt cleaner technologies.
Founded in 1945, the Mahindra Group operates across multiple sectors including farm equipment, utility vehicles, information technology and financial services. With 260,000 employees in over 100 countries, it holds leadership positions in several industries and claims to be the world's largest tractor company by volume. The conglomerate maintains operations in renewable energy, agriculture, logistics, hospitality and real estate.
The automotive industry has seen significant shifts toward sustainability in recent years, with manufacturers investing in electric vehicles, reducing manufacturing emissions, and implementing more responsible supply chain practices. Mahindra's recognition comes amid this industry-wide transformation and growing investor interest in companies with strong ESG credentials.
