Mahindra & Mahindra Limited has announced a significant leadership reorganization, with Hemant Sikka, currently President of the Farm Equipment Sector (FES), being appointed as the MD & CEO of Mahindra Logistics (MLL). The transition will take effect from May 4, 2025, according to a regulatory filing by the company today.
Sikka's move comes as part of a broader leadership reshuffle that will see Veejay Nakra, currently President of the Automotive Division, taking over as President of the Farm Equipment Business (FEB). Meanwhile, R Velusamy, who currently serves as President of Automotive Technology and Product Development, will be elevated to President of the Automotive Business (AB).
The company disclosed that the current CEO of Mahindra Logistics, Ram Swaminathan, has decided to step down to pursue other professional interests. In a statement regarding the changes, Dr. Anish Shah, Group CEO & Managing Director of M&M, emphasized that these leadership changes would ensure strong, proven leaders at the helm of key businesses.
"Their experience will enable us to drive significant growth and create greater value for our customers and shareholders," Shah stated in the press release accompanying the announcement.
The Farm Equipment Business, which Nakra will now lead, is described as one of Mahindra's large and profitable businesses with a return on capital employed (ROCE) of over 60%. The company noted that Nakra, who joined M&M in 1995, has a strong track record of transforming the Auto Business with successful launches while building manufacturing capabilities.
Velusamy, who will head the Automotive Business, joined M&M in 1996 and has been instrumental in developing both internal combustion engine products and Mahindra's electric vehicle portfolio. According to the company, his role will integrate the SUV and light commercial vehicle business under one leader to build "greater agility and collaboration."
Founded in 1945, the Mahindra Group employs 260,000 people across more than 100 countries. It maintains leadership positions in farm equipment, utility vehicles, information technology, and financial services in India, and claims to be the world's largest tractor company by volume.
