Suzuki has displayed the Made in India Fronx at various Shinkansen stations across Japan, to help gain visibility for the SUV in their local market. The Shinkansen, or bullet train, is a high-speed railway network in Japan that connects the country's three largest metropolitan areas: Tokyo, Nagoya, and Osaka.
The Fronx will go on sale in Japan on October 16, as reported by us earlier.
Suzuki recently announced the commencement of exports of made-in-India Fronx to Japan, with the first shipment consisting of over 1,600 units. Sources have confirmed to us that the Fronx has gathered more than 700 bookings already in the Japanese domestic market.
Just like the Fronx sold in other export markets, the Japan-bound SUV gets a 1.5-litre petrol engine with mild hybrid, which is not available in the Fronx sold in India. However, unlike other overseas markets where the Fronx is sold with the FWD option only, the units headed to Japan, get Suzuki’s AllGrip Select AWD tech, among other unique bits.
Gearbox options include a five-speed manual or a six-speed torque converter automatic with paddle shifters. It also gets unique interior shades, more safety equipment and tech like ADAS among others.
The Fronx is built at Suzuki’s Gujarat plant for domestic and export markets. It is also sold by Toyota as the Toyota Taisor in India or the Toyota Starlet Cross in South Africa.
