Kia Corporation has reported its global sales performance for 2024, marking a new annual record with 3,089,457 vehicles sold. This reflects a marginal increase of 0.1 % compared to the previous year.
Kia’s sales outside of its home market, Korea, rose by 1 % year-over-year, reaching 2,543,361 units. However, domestic sales in Korea declined by 4.2 %, totaling 540,010 units. In December 2024, Kia recorded global monthly sales of 240,537 vehicles, an increase of 11.8 % compared to the same month in 2023.
The company's previous record was set in 2023, with global sales of 3,087,384 units. This included 2,518,016 vehicles sold outside of Korea and 563,660 vehicles in the domestic market.
The Sportage SUV led Kia's 2024 sales by model, with 587,717 units sold globally. The Seltos SUV and the Sorento SUV followed, recording sales of 312,246 units and 280,705 units, respectively. Kia attributed its record performance to the introduction of new models such as the Kia EV3, the K4 sedan, and a hybrid version of the Carnival MPV, along with improved industrial conditions and optimized business operations that enhanced production and supply capabilities.
Looking ahead, Kia has set a global sales target of 3,216,200 units for 2025. The company aims to sell 550,000 vehicles in Korea and 2,658,000 units in international markets. Additionally, Kia plans to sell 8,200 special-purpose vehicles in the coming year.
Kia's strategy for 2025 includes expanding its electric vehicle (EV) lineup, launching new strategic models, and developing its Purpose-Built Vehicle (PBV) business to maintain its sales momentum and strengthen its position in the EV market.
Kia’s sales performance in December 2024 showed a year-over-year increase in Korea by 2.8 %, with 46,070 units sold, although this was a 4.1 % decrease compared to November 2024. Outside Korea, December sales rose by 14.2 % year-over-year, reaching 193,887 units, despite a 10.1 % decline compared to November. Special-purpose vehicle sales in December totaled 580 units, reflecting a slight year-over-year decline of 2.5 % but a 0.7 % increase compared to November.
For the full year 2024, Kia's sales in Korea decreased by 4.2 %, totaling 540,010 units. International sales, on the other hand, increased by 1 %, reaching 2,543,361 units. Special-purpose vehicle sales also grew, recording a 6.6 % rise to 6,086 units.
For 2025, Kia aims to achieve 550,000 sales in Korea, a modest increase from 540,010 units in 2024. The target for sales outside of Korea is set at 2,658,000 units, up from 2,543,361 units in 2024. The company also plans to expand its special-purpose vehicle sales to 8,200 units. The overall global sales target for 2025 stands at 3,216,200 units, an increase from the 3,089,457 units sold in 2024.
