Kia Expands Electric Lineup with New EV4 Sedan and Concept EV2

Kia Corporation unveiled its new EV4 and Concept EV2 models at the 2025 Kia EV Day event in Tarragona, Spain yesterday. The vehicles represent the latest additions to the company's growing electric vehicle portfolio.

The EV4, Kia's first electric sedan and hatchback, will be available in both four-door sedan and five-door hatchback configurations. Designed to appeal to a broader customer base, the EV4 aims to diversify options in an EV market currently dominated by CUVs and SUVs.

Built on Kia's 400V Electric Global Modular Platform (E-GMP), the EV4 offers two battery options: a standard 58.3 kWh and a long-range 81.4 kWh configuration. The long-range sedan model delivers up to 630 km of range according to WLTP standards, while the hatchback variant offers 590 km. The standard model provides 430 km of range.

The vehicle features a front-mounted 150 kW motor that delivers 0-100 km/h acceleration in 7.4 seconds for the long-range model and 7.7 seconds for the standard version. Both variants have a top speed of 170 km/h.

Kia emphasized the EV4's efficiency, noting its drag coefficient of 0.23 Cd thanks to aerodynamic enhancements including a full underbody cover. Fast charging capability allows the long-range model to charge from 10-80 percent in 31 minutes.

The EV4 comes equipped with Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) and Vehicle-to-Grid (V2G) functionality, allowing owners to power external devices or feed electricity back to the grid. It also features an 11 kW on-board charger compatible with both single-phase and three-phase inputs.

For connectivity and convenience, the EV4 includes a 30-inch wide-screen display system, Digital Key 2.0 for smartphone access, and over-the-air update capabilities. Entertainment options include content streaming services such as YouTube, Netflix, and Disney+.

Safety features include Highway Driving Assist 2 technology, Driver Attention Warning, Forward Collision Avoidance Assist 2, and Lane Following Assist 2. The vehicle's structure is reinforced to protect both passengers and the battery in case of collision, with Kia aiming for five-star safety ratings from both Euro NCAP and US NCAP.

The EV4 sedan will be manufactured at Kia's Autoland Gwangmyeong EVO Plant in Korea, while the hatchback will be produced exclusively in Slovakia for the European market. Production of the Korean sedan will begin in mid-March, with the European hatchback following in the second half of 2025. North American production is planned for later in the year.

Sales will start in Korea in March, followed by Europe in the second half of 2025, and then the United States.

Alongside the EV4, Kia also presented the Concept EV2, a B-segment electric SUV that previews a future production model. The concept features advanced connected technology, a multi-configurable interior, and rear-hinged back doors.

The Concept EV2's exterior showcases vertical daytime running lights, Kia's Star Map signature lighting without cover glass, and a compact design with rugged bumpers. Despite its city-friendly dimensions, the vehicle maintains a bold presence with its upright stance and distinctive features.
