JCBL Marrel Tippers Limited (JML), a manufacturer specializing in trailers, POL tankers, bowsers, and export-oriented containers, has announced the expansion of its manufacturing facility in Oragadam, Chennai. The expansion aims to meet increasing demand for its technically advanced and value-added products while aligning with sustainable manufacturing practices.
The expansion increases JML’s production capacity by 25%, enabling the company to cater to its growing customer base more effectively. It also marks a diversification of JML’s portfolio to serve sectors such as defense, automotive, navy, railways, construction equipment, petroleum transportation, mining, power transmission, and heavy fabrication for earth-moving equipment. The move is expected to create 200 new jobs and provide opportunities for approximately 40 additional suppliers in Tamil Nadu, contributing to local economic development.
The first phase of the expansion adds over 60,000 square feet to the existing 100,000-square-foot facility, with plans for an additional 50,000 square feet in the second phase. The company has also reserved six acres of open land for future projects scheduled for the fiscal year 2025-26.
The upgraded facility incorporates advanced technology, including laser cutting equipment, robotic welding systems, CNC machining, airless painting technology, and heavy-duty EOT cranes. These enhancements aim to improve production efficiency and maintain the quality of JML’s products. Lean manufacturing principles will also be implemented to minimize waste, enhance precision, and ensure consistent output.
As part of its sustainability efforts, JML has equipped the facility with a 300-kilowatt solar power system, generating approximately 1,350 kilowatt-hours of energy per day. Plans are in place to install an additional 1,200-kilowatt system to increase green energy generation to 6,750 kilowatt-hours daily. The facility will also feature a "Water from Air" system to produce 1,500 liters of water per day for internal use.
The company has dedicated 30% of the plant area to greenery, supported by a water management system. A sewage treatment plant generates six kiloliters of water daily, which is used to maintain the greenbelt sustainably.
