JBM Ecolife Mobility Pvt Ltd., a subsidiary of JBM Auto Limited, has received an order for 1021 electric buses under the Government of India's PM e-Bus Sewa Scheme-2 initiative. The order is valued at approximately Rs 5,500 crore, the company said. The buses will be deployed in 19 cities across Gujarat, Maharashtra and Haryana. With this addition, the company's order book now contains over 11,000 electric buses.
Under this tender, JBM Ecolife Mobility will handle the end-to-end execution. The project includes a Payment Security Mechanism (PSM) to ensure timely payments to electric bus operators and improve financial sustainability for industry participants. The e-buses are expected to travel over 32 billion passenger e-kilometers and reduce CO2 emissions by over 1 billion tons during their 12-year deployment period.
The PM e-Bus Sewa Scheme-2 aims to deploy electric buses across multiple states, reducing urban pollution while modernizing public transit systems. The program incorporates a Payment Security Mechanism to ensure financial viability for operators and includes provisions for comprehensive maintenance services. Building upon earlier electric mobility efforts, this second phase targets tier-2 and tier-3 cities to expand clean transportation beyond metropolitan areas. The scheme aligns with India's broader climate goals by significantly reducing carbon emissions from the transportation sector while improving connectivity for millions of citizens.
Nishant Arya, Vice Chairman & Managing Director of JBM Auto, stated: "We are pleased to participate in this initiative to improve public mobility across India. This order reflects our focus on providing sustainable public mobility solutions. JBM is working to make electric mobility more accessible and environmentally responsible."
This year marks JBM Auto's tenth year in the public mobility sector. The company plans to serve approximately 20 billion passengers and cover 3 billion e-kilometers over the next 3-4 years.
JBM Auto has deployed about 2,000 electric buses across India, Europe, the Middle East, and Africa. The company has established a large integrated electric bus manufacturing facility in the Delhi-NCR region, with an annual production capacity of 20,000 electric buses.
This order under the PM e-Bus Sewa Scheme-2 demonstrates JBM's continued involvement in electric mobility and India's sustainable public transportation goals.
