Hyundai Motor Company today unveiled the all-new NEXO fuel cell electric vehicle (FCEV) at the Seoul Mobility Show in Korea. The second-generation mid-size hydrogen-powered SUV boasts enhanced range, improved performance, and advanced technology features.
The new NEXO targets more than 700 km of driving range from a five-minute hydrogen refill, positioning it as a practical zero-emission alternative in the competitive SUV segment. Acceleration has improved from 9.2 to 7.8 seconds for 0-100 km/h, thanks to increased power output from 135 kW to 190 kW.
Embodying Hyundai's new 'Art of Steel' design language, the NEXO features distinctive 'HTWO' lamps that reference the company's hydrogen brand. The vehicle is larger than its predecessor in all dimensions, offering improved passenger comfort and increased cargo capacity of up to 993 liters.
"This launch marks a significant milestone in hydrogen mobility," Hyundai stated in its announcement, reinforcing the company's 27-year experience with fuel cell technology and commitment to a diversified electrification strategy.
Interior upgrades include first-row Premium Relaxation Seats with leg rests, ventilated second-row seats, and a curved display combining a 12.3-inch driver information cluster with a 12.3-inch infotainment screen. The cabin incorporates numerous sustainable materials, including bio-process leather and recycled fabrics.
Technical improvements include a hydrogen fuel cell stack delivering 110 kW (a 16 percent increase), a more powerful 150 kW electric motor, and increased hydrogen storage capacity of 6.69 kg. The vehicle also features enhanced aerodynamics and, for European models, offers towing capability of up to 1,000 kg – a first for an FCEV.
Advanced safety features include a multi-skeleton structure, up to nine airbags, and comprehensive driver assistance systems such as Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist, Highway Driving Assist, and Remote Smart Parking Assist 2.
The all-new NEXO will be available in six exterior colors, including the uniquely Korean-inspired Goyo Copper Pearl, and three interior color schemes. It is scheduled to launch in global markets later this year.
Hyundai continues to expand FCEV infrastructure as part of its broader strategy to become a comprehensive mobility solutions provider across multiple powertrain technologies.
