Hyundai Motor India Foundation (HMIF)'s EcoGram project, a biogas plant and material recovery facility in Gurugram, has significantly contributed to environmental sustainability by curbing 1.4 million kg of CO2 emissions. Since its inception in October 2022, EcoGram has processed 404,000 kg of waste collected from over 2,000 households and Hyundai Motor India Headquarters in Gurugram.
The facility, established at a cost of Rs 2.13 crore, has an annual electricity generation capacity of 76 megawatts and is currently self-sustaining, with plans to supply electricity to the grid in the near future.

We have saved considerable amount of waste from ending up in landfills, curbing 1.4 million kg of CO2 emissions, creating a self-sustaining facility and aim to set a benchmark for other cities to follow. EcoGram facility will continue to serve Gurugram and would aim to contribute towards the betterment of the environment and pave the roadmap for a sustainable future.”
EcoGram processes both wet and dry waste, with a daily capacity of 2,000 kg of wet waste and 5,000 kg of dry waste. It produces biogas from wet waste for electricity generation and recycles dry waste, contributing to a reduction in greenhouse gas emissions released from landfills.
The plant's installed capacity allows it to produce 200 kilowatt electricity per day, totaling to about 40 megawatt electricity produced till now. With support from the Metropolitan Corporation of Gurugram (MCG), EcoGram receives waste from three RWAs comprising over 2,000 households, highlighting its collaborative efforts towards sustainable waste management.
