Ahead of its official debut and launch on January 16, Hyundai has given us a first look at the exterior and interior updates of the upcoming Creta facelift, which gets major cosmetic updates, a lot more tech and marks the return of the turbo-petrol engine. The design updates on the Creta facelift are specific to India, as are the interiors.
The company has also opened bookings for the new Creta for a token amount of Rs 25,000, and those who have booked the existing Creta will have the option of converting their bookings to the new model.
The exterior updates seem as comprehensive as possible with facelifts. It gets an all-new face that looks more upright and boxy with a new grille, headlamp and bumper assembly. There’s a full-width LED light band underlining the hood that ends with inverted L-shaped elements at the edges. The main headlamp cluster is now rectangular and vertically positioned on the bumper with quad LED beams. The grille, too, is now rectangular with three horizontal slats, and together with the lower portion of the bumper looks a lot more blocky than before.
At the rear, the tailgate is also completely new. The full-width LED tail lamps mimic the front-end design, the number plate housing has been redesigned and the bumper looks a lot chunkier. But while these images do not give us a look at the side profile, we expect it to largely remain the same save for a new set of alloy wheels.
The updates on the inside are even more comprehensive. The dashboard gets an all-new design with twin 10.25-inch connected screens that are likely the same unit from the Kia Seltos. The dashboard wraps rather elegantly around the screens and the AC vent for the passenger side is now incorporated within a gloss black horizontal band on the dashboard.
The centre console now gets redesigned central AC vents, a single band of physical buttons and likely a touch panel for the HVAC controls, although it’s not the switchable panel with rotary physical dials as we have seen on the Verna. There are also new storage areas, and on the features front, the biggest talking point will be the addition of the ADAS suite, 360-degree camera and dual-zone climate control, among others.
Under the hood, the Creta facelift will continue with the 115hp, 1.5-litre petrol and diesel engines. Both will be offered with manual gearboxes as well as CVT and torque converter automatic gearboxes, respectively. What will be new is the 160hp, 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine that replaces the now-discontinued 1.4-litre turbo-petrol, and will likely be offered with manual and DCT gearboxes.
Hyundai will offer the Creta in seven trim levels – E, EX, S, S(O), SX, SX Tech, SX (O) – and six mono-tone colour options – Robust Emerald Pearl (New), Fiery Red, Ranger Khaki, Abyss Black, Atlas White, Titan Grey – and one dual-tone colour option of Atlas White with Black Roof.
Upon launch, the new Creta will continue to rival the likes of the Kia Seltos, Maruti Grand Vitara, Honda Elevate, and Volkswagen Taigun in the hotly contested midsize SUV segment.
