HORIBA India, a subsidiary of Kyoto-based HORIBA Ltd., launched its first Hydrogen Internal Combustion Engine (H2-ICE) test bed facility at the HORIBA India Technical Center in Chakan, Pune. The new facility is designed to test hydrogen-fuel-based internal combustion engines, paving the way for advancements in energy efficiency and sustainability. This new test bed facility represents an additional investment of Rs 28-30 crore.
The Chakan facility will also feature an Experience Zone showcasing advanced technologies such as the Hydrogen Gas Analyzer (HyEVO), the Hydrogen Fuel Flow Meter (HyFQ-2000 Series), and the Laser Spectroscopic Motor Exhaust Gas Analyzer (MEXA-ONE-XL-NX). Visitors will have the opportunity to witness live demonstrations of these products, gaining hands-on experience with HORIBA’s innovative solutions.
HORIBA India’s Technical Center, established in 2016 with an investment of over Rs 100 crore, spans 10,000 square meters. The facility has been instrumental in emission measurement systems, advanced analytical instruments, and indigenized customization. It holds several certifications, including ISO 9001:2015, ISO 14001:2015, ISO 45001:2018, and NABL ISO IEC 17025:2017 accreditation, supporting India's Make-in-India and Atmanirbhar Bharat initiatives. The center has successfully executed projects like the development of two- and three-wheeler chassis dynamometers, electric vehicle testing systems, and environmental monitoring systems.
It is equipped to test engines up to 380 kilowatts, catering to the Indian commercial vehicle segment. HORIBA India aims to address the growing demand for green and sustainable automotive solutions.
The inaugural ceremony was attended by Dr. George Gillespie, Executive Corporate Officer of HORIBA Energy and Environment, and Dr. Rajeev Gautam, Corporate Officer of HORIBA Ltd. and President of HORIBA India. Dr. Gillespie emphasized the significance of hydrogen as a carbon-neutral fuel and highlighted the facility's role in India’s journey toward net-zero emissions by 2070. Dr. Gautam reiterated HORIBA’s commitment to sustainability and its vision of achieving a 42% reduction in CO2 emissions by 2033 and full carbon neutrality by 2050.
HORIBA India has, achieved an annual growth rate of over 15%. Its workforce of approximately 500 employees supports operations in three manufacturing facilities located in Pune, Nagpur, and Haridwar, contributing to the company’s goal of expanding into tier-2 cities.
Globally, HORIBA Ltd. has a presence in 29 countries, employing over 8,000 people. The company, listed on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, recorded consolidated sales revenue of 290 billion Japanese yen in 2023. HORIBA is a market leader in emission measurement systems, holding an 80% global market share, and in mass flow controllers with a 60% market share.
