Honda Cars India (HCIL) has signed an agreement with Maruti Suzuki Toyotsu India (MSTI) to offer its customers an end-to-end solution for scrapping their end-of-life vehicles (ELVs).
As part of this tie-up, Honda’s customers will be able to get their older vehicles scrapped in a scientific and environment-friendly manner. HCIL says it strives to assist its customers in getting the best value of their ELVs and facilitating hassle-free deregistration as well as issuance of Certificate of Deposit / Destruction through its dealer partners.
MSTI is a government-approved ELV scrapping and recycling company which is setting up modern ELV scrap and recycling centres in the country. The service alliance will begin in Delhi-NCR, Haryana, and Uttar Pradesh, where the existing MSTI facility is spread over an 11,000-square-feet area in Noida, Uttar Pradesh. The serviceable regions will expand with the addition of new scrappage centres by MSTI in future.
Speaking on the new customer initiative Takuya Tsumura, President & CEO, HCIL, said, “The Vehicle Scrappage Policy by the Government of India stipulates scrappage and deregistration of old vehicles to promote phasing out of unfit vehicles from the roads, improving safety and lowering of carbon footprint in India. We are pleased to offer a one-stop solution to our customers through our dealers, to scrap their old cars in a systematic and environmentally-friendly manner.”
Masaru Akaishi, Managing Director, MSTI, added “Today we are pleased to announce our collaboration with Honda Cars India Limited. MSTI will continue to contribute to the improvement of India’s environment by providing environment friendly ELV dismantling services.”
As part of the tie-up, HCIL dealerships in Delhi-NCR, Haryana and Uttar Pradesh along with MSTI will offer ELV vehicle evaluation services, arrange for the best quotes for scrappage value of the vehicle, provide end-to-end services including vehicle pick-up, transportation and dismantling at MSTI scrap and recycling centre as well as issuance of the Certificate of Deposit / Destruction from MSTI.
The Certificate of Deposit/ Destruction will enable customers claim eligible benefits under the Vehicle Scrappage Policy notified by Government of India and adopted by various State Governments. HCIL says that by availing services offered by HCIL and MSTI, customers will also have additional peace of mind and assurance that their old vehicle cannot be misused, therefore freeing them from legal liabilities or hassles afterwards.
Set up with an investment of Rs 44 crore and commissioned in November 2021, the Maruti Suzuki Toyotsu India (MSTI) vehicle scrapping centre in Noida, Uttar Pradesh aims to dismantle and scrap up to 24,000 vehicles annually or 2,000 units every month. MSTI can scrap a car in about 200 minutes and the company follows global best practices to ensure safe, environmental-friendly scrapping and recycling of ELVs (end-of-life vehicles), zero discharge of oils / AC gases to land and air, scanning of radioactive material, up to 95% scrap recovery, and offers special care for human safety. The scrap recovered is sold to authorised recyclers and smelters.
As per a 2021 report by the Centre for Science and Environment, there are more than 51 lakh light motor vehicles older than 20 years and 34 lakh vehicles older than 15 years in India that are unfit to ply on the roads from an emissions standpoint.
