Honda has become the first automaker to receive the highest ranking of 3 stars in the FIA Road Safety Index, a tool designed to help organizations measure their road safety footprint.
The recognition was announced on February 17 at the “Challenge 2030: Achieving the Global Road Safety Goals” event, held alongside the 4th Global Ministerial Conference on Road Safety in Marrakech, Morocco.
The FIA Road Safety Index assesses companies on their road safety impact based on their goals, commitment, and the number of traffic fatalities and injuries within their value chain. The Index includes two ratings: the “supply chain rating,” covering activities from raw material procurement to customer delivery, and the “product/service rating,” which evaluates the safety of products and services. Honda is the first automaker to undergo audits for both ratings and achieve 3-star status in both categories.
Honda has long pursued safety initiatives under its global slogan, “Safety for Everyone.” The company aims to reduce traffic collision fatalities involving its motorcycles and automobiles by 50% by 2030 and achieve zero fatalities by 2050. Receiving the highest rating in the FIA Road Safety Index reflects Honda’s efforts to track and address traffic fatalities and serious injuries across its value chain.
Willem Groenewald, FIA Secretary General for Automobile Mobility, stated, “Through the FIA Road Safety Index, we help companies measure and improve their impact on road safety. Honda is the first car and motorcycle manufacturer to achieve the Index's highest rating. This demonstrates a strong commitment to improving road safety.”
Hideaki Takaishi, General Manager of Honda’s Safety Planning Division, said, “Honda is honored to have its safety initiatives recognized. For over 50 years, we have focused on developing safe vehicles and promoting safe driving practices. We hope more organizations commit to road safety, leading to a reduction in traffic collisions worldwide."
