In a comprehensive effort to promote road safety awareness, Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India (HMSI) has launched a series of educational programs targeting school children. The initiative, unveiled during National Road Safety Month, marks a significant step in the company's commitment to reducing traffic-related incidents.
The centerpiece of this initiative, dubbed the 'Kids Carnival,' has been implemented across HMSI's four manufacturing locations in India, including facilities in Rajasthan, Gujarat, Karnataka, and Haryana. The program has successfully engaged more than 1,100 students from government and primary schools, specifically focusing on fifth and sixth-grade students.
"This initiative aligns with both Honda's global vision and the Government of India's objectives," said a company spokesperson. The program supports Honda's target of eliminating traffic collision fatalities by 2050, while complementing the government's goal to reduce road fatalities by 50% by 2030.
The educational approach combines traditional learning methods with interactive elements. Students participate in specially designed skits, watch educational videos, and engage in interactive games that reinforce road safety principles. This multi-faceted approach ensures that critical safety concepts are presented in an engaging and memorable format.
The company maintains 10 Traffic Training Parks and 6 Safety Driving Education Centers throughout India, which have collectively reached over 9 million Indians. These facilities offer comprehensive training programs that include virtual riding simulators, hazard perception training, and practical skill development exercises.
In a notable digital expansion of their educational efforts, HMSI has recently launched E-Gurukul, an online learning platform. This platform provides age-appropriate road safety education for students between 5 and 18 years old. Available in six Indian languages including Hindi, Telugu, Tamil, and English, E-Gurukul represents a significant step toward making road safety education more accessible across diverse regions.
