GreenLine Secures $275 Million Investment to Deploy 10,000 Green Trucks Across India

GreenLine Mobility Solutions Ltd., an Essar venture and India's only green logistics operator of LNG and electric-powered heavy commercial trucks, announced on April 10, 2025, a $275 million equity investment to accelerate the decarbonization of India's heavy trucking sector. The funding includes a $20 million investment from entrepreneur Nikhil Kamath to support the company's expansion plans.

The investment will fund the deployment of over 10,000 LNG and EV trucks and establish a nationwide network of 100 LNG refueling stations, EV charging stations, and battery swapping facilities. This comprehensive initiative aims to reduce carbon emissions by 1 million tonnes annually in India's transportation sector, which currently contributes approximately 15% of the country's total carbon emissions.

India's road logistics sector, with over 4 million trucks in operation, remains one of the country's most carbon-intensive industries. GreenLine's expansion aligns with the Indian government's goal to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by transitioning the country's heavy-duty vehicle fleet to more sustainable alternatives.

GreenLine currently operates a fleet of over 650 LNG trucks that have already covered more than 38 million kilometers, reducing CO₂ emissions by 10,000 tonnes. The company's LNG-powered trucks reduce CO₂ emissions by up to 30% compared to conventional diesel trucks. GreenLine offers its logistics services at cost parity with diesel trucks, allowing customers to reduce their carbon footprint without additional expense.

"We are really excited about this game-changing shift in India's heavy trucking industry. We see this as an opportunity to not only build the green mobility ecosystem, but also, in the future, invest in clean energy sources to power our electric trucks. This integrated approach will significantly reduce emissions, cut down on energy imports, and help drive India towards achieving a more sustainable, energy-secure future," said Anshuman Ruia, Director at Essar.

Anand Mimani, CEO of GreenLine Mobility Solutions Ltd., added, "GreenLine has been at the forefront of decarbonising India's heavy trucking industry, making significant progress from the very start. As leaders in this space, this investment brings us even closer to our vision of transforming India's road logistics sector. We request India Inc. to embrace this evolving landscape and actively support the transition towards a greener and more sustainable future for all."

Investor Nikhil Kamath commented, "The logistics industry needs to evolve—faster, cleaner, and smarter. Green mobility isn't just a trend; it's the inevitable future. Backing GreenLine is a bet on that future, where sustainability and efficiency go hand in hand. More companies need to take the leap, adopt green tech, and rethink how we move goods at scale. This shift is happening—with or without you."

GreenLine Mobility Solutions Ltd., as part of its expansion plans, is also building a nationwide network of LNG refueling stations through its subsidiary Ultra Gas and Energy Ltd. to support its green logistics infrastructure.
