Govt sends notices to Ola, Uber over differential pricing
The Department of Consumer Affairs through the CCPA, has issued notices to major cab aggregators #Ola and #Uber, seeking their responses.
The Indian government has sent notices to cab companies Ola and Uber over alleged differential pricing for Andriod and Apple phones, the consumer affairs minister Pralhad Joshi posted on X, on Thursday, 23 January.
"As a follow-up to the earlier observation of apparent #DifferentialPricing based on the different models of mobiles (#iPhones/ #Android) being used, Department of Consumer Affairs through the CCPA, has issued notices to major cab aggregators #Ola and #Uber, seeking their responses," the minister said on X.
There were several reports as to how users complained on social media that iPhone users were charged higher prices for the same ride as compared to those using Android phones.
The minister said he would direct the Central Consumer Protection Agency (CCPA) to also look into differential pricing strategies used by other sectors, including food delivery and online ticketing portals.
