FLIR, a Teledyne Technologies company, has launched its latest industrial acoustic imaging camera, the Si1-LD, aimed at improving compressed air leak detection for facilities operating on limited budgets. The new model is designed to enhance detection accuracy and speed while offering an accessible entry point for condition monitoring.
The FLIR Si1-LD offers upgraded capabilities compared to the company’s existing Si124-LD Plus, including a broader frequency range and enhanced leak quantification features. Compressed air systems are known to lose between 25–30% of their output to leaks, leading to higher energy costs, potential production downtimes, additional maintenance, and reduced equipment efficiency. The Si1-LD is positioned as a tool to help address these challenges more effectively.
The device features an array of 96 microphones capable of detecting leaks in the 2–100 kHz frequency range. It can identify and measure compressed air and vacuum leaks from distances of up to 130 meters. A built-in 12-megapixel color camera with 8× digital zoom and an LED lamp allows users to capture visual context alongside acoustic data.
One of the key functions of the Si1-LD is its bandpass filtering, which helps eliminate irrelevant or misleading ultrasonic signals. Inspectors can use this feature to manually adjust the frequency range when needed, especially in more complex environments.
Designed for single-handed use, the Si1-LD is lightweight and compact, incorporating AI-based processing to simplify operation and reduce training requirements. The touchscreen interface provides real-time imaging and quantifies leak flow rate and potential annual cost, enabling facilities to prioritize maintenance tasks. This data can also be used in sustainability reports to reflect efforts in reducing energy consumption.
For data management and reporting, the camera supports wireless transfer to FLIR’s Acoustic Viewer and Thermal Studio software platforms. It also allows firmware updates via Over-The-Air functionality and provides templates for generating inspection reports. In addition, a new data transfer cable accessory is available, enabling direct file access for organizations that restrict wireless or USB device usage.
The Si1-LD is available in two variants—one with WiFi connectivity and one without. Both versions come with standard accessories including two batteries, a charger, neck strap, hard case, USB memory stick, and access to software tools. The camera has a minimum detected leak rate of 0.01 L/min at a distance of 2.5 meters.
