Exicom Begins Manufacturing Liquid-Cooled Power Modules for EV Chargers in India

Exicom Tele-Systems Limited has started manufacturing liquid-cooled AC and DC power modules at its Hyderabad facility, becoming the first company in India to produce this category of power electronics for EV chargers. The announcement positions India as a potential production base for high-power charging components that have until now been manufactured elsewhere for global markets.

Tritium Integration Behind the Liquid-Cooled Rollout

The modules will initially supply Tritium's DC charger portfolio in North America and Europe, including its TRI-FLEX ultra-fast DC chargers and DC-FLEX charging systems. Exicom acquired Tritium, an Australian DC fast charging company, in 2024, and the two entities have since been consolidating their technology and manufacturing operations. The liquid-cooled module production deepens that integration, with Tritium's existing capability in this technology now being transferred to Indian manufacturing.

Why Liquid Cooling Matters for EV Chargers

Thermal stress is among the leading causes of failure in power electronics, accounting for nearly 60% of failures according to reliability studies. Each 10°C–15°C rise in operating temperature roughly doubles component failure rates — a particular concern as EV chargers are increasingly deployed in outdoor environments and run for longer hours to meet rising demand. Liquid cooling addresses this directly by circulating coolant that absorbs and transfers heat more efficiently than air, keeping internal temperatures approximately 10°C lower than conventional air-cooled systems.

Built for Sealed, Outdoor and Coastal Deployment

The modules also feature a fully sealed design, which limits exposure to dust, moisture and salt air — conditions that can accelerate wear in field-deployed chargers, particularly in tropical and coastal environments. This makes the technology relevant not only for markets in North America and Europe but also for deployment across South and Southeast Asia.

Inside Exicom's Hyderabad Smart Manufacturing Facility

Production will take place at Exicom's recently opened Hyderabad Smart Manufacturing Facility, equipped with automation systems, digital traceability and specialised testing infrastructure. The facility was built to support both domestic supply and international exports, and the liquid-cooled module line represents one of its first major product launches.

Harmony Chargers and Domestic Rollout

In subsequent phases, Exicom plans to extend liquid-cooled architecture to its own Harmony DC charger line and make the technology available to charge point operators, fleet operators and OEMs that are currently deploying Tritium's fast chargers in India. This would bring the manufacturing capability closer to the domestic market while also opening a new category of power electronics exports from India.

Exicom Tele-Systems is listed on the BSE and NSE and operates across India, Southeast Asia, the Middle East, the US and Europe. The company has shipped over 200,000 chargers worldwide and also supplies critical power systems, including uninterrupted power supplies, to telecom infrastructure operators.
