Automotive supplier Delphi-TVS Technologies today announced a new milestone of producing three million Common Rail systems from its manufacturing facility at Oragadam, Chennai. Meanwhile, the company has earmarked Rs 450 crore capex for various Common Rail System projects.
The first batch of the Common Rail system was started in 2009. This achievement comes in addition to the production of five million rotary pumps. The company’s manufacturing facility is also possibly the only manufacturing site in the world that makes Common Rail pumps, injectors, rails, and filters, all under one roof.
Four out of ten diesel vehicles made in India use the company's system, it said. T K Balaji, Chairman, and Managing Director of Delphi-TVS Technologies said, “We offer state-of-the-art Global Technology coupled with Indian frugal engineering to optimise products for our customers. Our relevance to the Indian market with innovative and cost-effective solutions has helped customers choose Delphi-TVS Technologies and reach this milestone. It is a reminder that we need to continue delighting our customers with superior products.”
He added that the company has crossed the 3 million milestone for cumulative Common Rail volume and expects to cross the 5 million, cumulative, volume by 2025.
Commenting on overall capex, he said, for the next few years the company plans to invest around Rs 450 crore in various Common Rail projects. With the proposed investment plans, the company would be scaling up the production to close to a million units from the present six lakh units a year, said A Viswanathan, President of Delphi-TVS Technologies.
"We will be growing more than the industry growth in the coming years, " he said when asked about the company's growth in the Common Rail System segment.
Viswanathan added “Delphi-TVS has the technology that supports manufacturing Common Rail systems to meet the Indian and the global emission norms for the next generation of diesel fuel technology. We have also been exporting our products to European and Korean OEMs (original equipment manufacturers) for the last eight years. Our technical centre with full turnkey capabilities has developed all the BS VI solutions for the Indian market. We are also well positioned for the next round of tractor emission norms TREM V that will require Common Rail Systems.”
Delphi-TVS Technologies is a joint venture between Borg Warner USA and T.V. Sundaram Iyengar & Sons, India manufacturing Diesel Fuel Injection Equipment for Cars, Sports Utility and Multi Utility Vehicles, Light Commercial Vehicles, Medium and Heavy Commercial Vehicles, Tractors, and Industrial engines. BorgWarner is one of the largest automotive suppliers in the world, while TVS is the largest automotive systems supplier group in India.
The company supplies automotive and diesel fuel injection systems to a wide range of major customers, such as Hyundai, Kia, Renault, Tata Motors, Ashok Leyland, Mahindra and Mahindra, JCB, Volvo Eicher, Escorts Group, TAFE, and others. The company has an extensive aftermarket service network of 350 service centres across the country.
Balaji said that the diesel engine is not going anywhere in the near future.
Delphi-TVS reported a turnover of Rs 1,800 crore last financial year, of which 12-15 percent constitute exports. Delphi-TVS serves the domestic market with 357 aftermarket service networks and it would be increased by 20 percent over the next two-three years under the expansion plan, he said.
