Danfoss India has reaffirmed its commitment to supporting the Government of India’s 'Make in India' initiative by increasing the localisation of HVACR (Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning, and Refrigeration) compressors and controls. The company has outlined a comprehensive localisation plan to address the anticipated demand increase in the Indian Refrigeration and Air Conditioning (RAC) sector.
Danfoss India is making an additional investment of Rs 500 crores, as announced earlier this year, which will help enhance local manufacturing capabilities for HVACR compressors and controls. This investment is part of Danfoss' efforts to reduce dependency on imports, strengthen the local supplier ecosystem, and meet the growing demand for its products in India. The company aims to develop sustainable, efficient, and cost-effective cooling solutions as part of its “Make in India” initiative.
India remains Danfoss’ fastest-growing market, and the company is on track to achieve its target of Rs 5000 crores in revenue by 2026. This growth will be supported by an expanded geographic footprint in the region and the development of a skilled workforce of green professionals to support India’s carbon neutrality goals.
Kristian Strand, President of Danfoss Commercial Compressors, Denmark, emphasised that India is a key market for Danfoss’ global strategy. He highlighted the company’s commitment to localising its compressor production, which will help foster the growth of a local supplier network and contribute to India’s role in Danfoss’ global climate solutions.
Danfoss’ products, including compressors, heat exchangers, and controls, already meet 60-70% of customer requirements in India. The company intends to further increase localisation in various product segments as part of its strategy. The ongoing Rs 500 crore investment will also focus on leveraging local talent, transforming them into green professionals, and ensuring the company remains responsive to market shifts and emerging opportunities.
Madhur Sehgal, Head of Climate Solutions at Danfoss India, stated that the localisation of its compressors and RAC controls will be significant for the Indian HVACR industry. He noted that the company’s goal is to build a local supplier ecosystem, which is essential for its 'Make in India' ambitions, while also supporting customers in their cooling and decarbonisation efforts.
Danfoss is also focused on developing green professionals in India. The company is engaging with academic institutions through its University Engagement Programs and CSR initiatives, setting up Centers of Excellence, and supporting research facilities. These initiatives aim to promote sustainability studies, increase female participation in the HVACR sector, and train future leaders, engineers, technicians, and service staff. Danfoss is also collaborating with government ITIs and rural community colleges to provide training in refrigeration and air conditioning.
Ravichandran Purushothaman, President of Danfoss India, reiterated the company’s strong commitment to India. He emphasised the potential of the Danfoss India team to become a key manufacturing hub for both the national and global markets, and the company’s goal to deliver high-quality products more efficiently to the Indian market.
