Cummins Group India launched its next-generation HELM engine platform and advanced hydrogen fuel delivery system. The company introduced the BSVI-compliant L10 engine and a hydrogen fuel delivery system capable of 350-bar and 700-bar pressure with Type IV storage vessels.
The new L10 engine, built on Cummins' 10-liter HELM (Higher Efficiency, Lower emissions, Multiple fuels) platform, is designed to meet future BSVII and Euro 7 emission standards. The company also unveiled the B6.7N natural gas engine for heavy-duty vehicles, aimed at facilitating the transition to CNG and LNG fuels.
"These innovations future-proof our customers' businesses while setting the stage for the next era of integrated power," said Jane Beaman, Vice President of Global On-Highway and Pickup Business at Cummins Inc. The HELM platform allows customers to choose between advanced diesel, natural gas, or hydrogen variants.
Nitin Jirafe, Managing Director of Tata Cummins Pvt. Ltd. and Head of Engine Business at Cummins India, emphasized that the new products align with the government's Viksit Bharat and Make in India initiatives while addressing the commercial vehicle industry's needs.
The company is displaying these technologies at its pavilion in Bharat Mandapam, where visitors can view the integration of engines with components including aftertreatment systems, automated manual transmission, axles, and power electronics.
Cummins has been operating in India for over 60 years through various joint ventures and wholly-owned entities. The company's focus on multiple fuel technologies comes as India pushes for cleaner transportation solutions and reduced carbon emissions in the commercial vehicle sector.
The commercial vehicle industry in India has been transitioning toward cleaner fuels, driven by stricter emission norms and government initiatives promoting alternative fuel adoption. The sector has seen increased demand for CNG and LNG vehicles, while hydrogen fuel cell technology is emerging as a potential solution for long-haul transportation.
