BYD has launched the Seal sedan in India with prices starting from Rs 41 lakh for the entry-level Dynamic variant, and going up to Rs 53 lakh for the top-spec Performance AWD variant (ex-showroom, India). The Seal is the Chinese carmaker’s third model in India after the e6 MPV and Atto 3 SUV, and will be brought in as a full import.
BYD has commenced bookings for the Seal for a token amount of Rs 1.25 lakh, and if booked before March 31, 2024, there are a few additonal services that can be availed such as free installation of home charger, a 3kW portable charging box and 6 years roadside assistance among other.
Here’s a look at the detailed price list of the BYD Seal in India:
The Seal is available with two battery options – 61.44kWh and 82.56kWh. Both batteries have BYD's patented blade technology. The smaller battery pack is paired with a single motor on the rear axle, and produces 204hp and 310Nm of torque, with a claimed range of 510km (NEDC cycle).
Variants with the larger 82.5kWh battery are available in both RWD and AWD configurations. In single motor RWD guise, the Seal produces 312hp and 360Nm of torque, while in dual-motor AWD configuration it produces 530hp and 670Nm of torque. Claimed range stands at 650km for the former and 580km for the latter. In its top-spec guise, BYD claims a 0-100kph sprint time of just 3.8 seconds.
The Seal is capable of charging at speeds of up to 150kW where 10-80 percent charge comes up in 37 minutes. Using a regular 11kW AC charger, it takes 8.6 hours to charge from 0-100 percent. The Seal is capable of Vehicle to Load (V2L) charging; BYD says you could use it for camping and outdoor activities.
BYD is providing 8 year/160,000 km warranty on the battery and 8 year/150,000 warranty on the motor and motor controller unit.
The Seal measures 4,800mm long, 1,875mm wide and 1,460mm tall, inherits design cues from the Ocean X concept from 2021, and follows BYD’s “ocean aesthetics” design language. It features interesting details like a coupe-like all-glass roof, flush-fitting door handles, four boomerang-shaped LED daytime running lights, swept back LED headlamps that have a C-shaped element extending into the bumper and a full-width LED light bar at the rear. The 19-inch alloy wheels with a petal-like design look very attractive. The Seal is bering offered in four colours in India - Arctic Blue, Aurora White, Atlantis Grey and Cosmos Black.
On the inside, the BYD Seal gets a rotating, 15.6-inch infotainment in the centre console, with the driver getting a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster and a heads-up display. Like the Atto 3, the interior of the Seal is rather flamboyant with flowing lines and textured surfaces. The centre console houses a crystal toggle drive selector and few physical controls for functions like the heated windscreen, volume control for the audio system as well as two wireless charging pads. The rear seats get 60:40 split-folding function, there's a powered tailgate, and there's also a 50-litre frunk for extra storage.
Other features of note include 8-way electronically adjustable driver’s seat with memory, heated and cooled front seats, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, leatherette upholstery, dual-zone AC, 10 airbags, ABS with hill hold, automatic wipers, a 360-degree camera as well as ADAS tech. The Seal also gets a 5-star safety rating from Euro NCAP.
At this price, there are no other electric sedans in the market, but the Seal will see competition from similarly priced SUVs such as the Hyundai Ioniq 5 (Rs 45.95 lakh), Kia EV6 (Rs 60.95 lakh-65.95 lakh) and the Volvo XC40 Recharge (Rs 57.90 lakh).
